Ms Franklin will take up the role in August following the departure of Kate Dodsworth, who has been selected as the first director of consumer regulation at the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).

Ms Franklin joins the 2,900-home landlord from Essex-based CHP, where she is currently chief operating officer.

Ms Franklin started in the housing sector in 2008 and has 12 years of executive leadership experience, having worked at Hyde, One Housing and North Hertfordshire Homes (now Settle).

She is currently serving as a non-executive director at MHS Homes.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Franklin said: “I am thrilled to be joining Gateway at such a significant time for the sector and our customers, and look forward to leading the organisation as it enters its next phase.”

Madeleine Forster, chair at Gateway, said: “The board is really looking forward to welcoming Kate to Gateway.

“She brings a commitment to Tower Hamlets alongside a wealth of experience and will help the association deliver excellent services to all its tenants and leaseholders.”

Research by Inside Housing last year found that Gateway received the most criticism from the Housing Ombudsman of any social landlord with more than 1,000 homes in England relative to its size over the past three financial years.

The housing association has said it saw a more than 50% reduction in the amount and type of enquiries and complaints to the ombudsman in the 2019/20 financial year.
