The chief executive of a London based black and minority ethnic housing association has walked out of the organisation in the same week that it was placed under Housing Corporation supervision.
Marcia Mitchell, interim chief executive of Ash-Shahada Housing Association, left last week as it emerged Ash-Shahada had fallen foul of the regulator.
The corporation placed the landlord under supervision due to concerns about governance. Mitchell was employed at the association on a temporary contract and worked part-time.
Consultant Tony Soares' company Tony Soares Associates has been charged by the association with finding a replacement interim chief executive. Soares said he planned to meet corporation officials in a bid to get the measure lifted, which he claimed was unjustified.
‘I am hoping to negotiate with the Housing Corporation and get them to lift supervision promptly,' he said. ‘[But] we will comply with whatever they want us to do.'
Ash-Shahada is tied up in row with Ujima Housing Association over the development of homes using proceeds from a former Ash-Shahada hostel (Inside Housing, 2 June).
