“It is an innovative example of an ALMO taking the plunge with a complicated regeneration project to produce much needed improvements to its extra care homes.”
Stuart Macdonald
An innovative solution was required when building these 46 apartments and four bungalows for older people on the site of an outdated sheltered housing scheme, as that scheme was still 75 per cent occupied. As there was additional land to the front of the old unit, the development took place in two stages, allowing the tenants to remain until the first stage was completed. Once they moved, the existing building was demolished and the second phase built. The project attracted a £2.6 million Homes and Communities Agency grant.
