The housing sector’s ‘heroes’ were celebrated at an awards ceremony held in Manchester last night.
The Housing Heroes Awards, which are organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing, highlighted contributions made by the sector’s unsung heroes.
A total of 16 individuals and teams walked away with awards at the event, which was hosted by comedian Justin Moorhouse.
The ceremony was held on the eve of the Housing 2017 conference in Manchester.
Winners included Leslie Morrell OBE who won the lifetime achievement in housing award for his 50 years of service to the housing sector. Mr Morrell played an integral role in the creation of the housing associations in Northern Ireland and his work has shaped the sector going forward.
Other prizes went to the income and inclusion team at Melin Homes, which took home the frontline team of the year award, and Tony Hall, chief executive of Freebridge Community Housing, who won inspirational leader of the year (over 5,000 stock) for his role in spearheading staff initiatives at the association.
Peggy Metaxas, a One Housing tenant, received the tenant lifetime contribution award for continuing to volunteer in her local community well into her nineties.
