London housing groups launch programme to increase diversity in the #ukhousing sector

.@peabodyLDN, @catalysthousing and @networkhomesuk sign up to “emerging talent” programme to increase diversity in #ukhousing

The programme, run by not-for-profit Future of London and consultancy Altair, will seek to generate more diversity in the built environment sector.

To do this it will reach out to under-represented groups through improved branding, increase people’s understanding of the various career paths in the sector, and offer a two-year training programme for those who take part.

The housing associations involved in the programme are Network Homes, Peabody and Catalyst.

Nicola Mathers, chief executive of Future of London, said there is a “well-recognised lack of diversity” in the profession, with a narrow talent pool entering the sector.

She added: “This is at odds with the well-publicised benefits of increasing diversity in organisations. Specifically, new perspectives, a greater capacity for creativity and innovation and competitive advantage.”

  • Attract new people to the sector through strong branding
  • Increase the understanding and awareness of the range of career opportunities in the sector
  • Offer a two-year programme and rotation through partner organisations
  • Give the opportunity to cross-fertilise between housing associations, local authorities, consultancies and private developers
  • Give the opportunity for talented leaders to be fast-tracked

Andrea Gordon, director of HR at Peabody, said: “The emerging talent programme will help shape London’s future success. It’s an exciting opportunity to help unearth and develop future leaders in our great city and will help us boost diversity and inclusivity in our industries.”
