A trio of housing associations have combined with house builder Hill Group and the Greater London Authority to create an “emerging talent” programme, which is aimed at reaching out to under-represented groups in London.
The programme, run by not-for-profit Future of London and consultancy Altair, will seek to generate more diversity in the built environment sector.
To do this it will reach out to under-represented groups through improved branding, increase people’s understanding of the various career paths in the sector, and offer a two-year training programme for those who take part.
The housing associations involved in the programme are Network Homes, Peabody and Catalyst.
Nicola Mathers, chief executive of Future of London, said there is a “well-recognised lack of diversity” in the profession, with a narrow talent pool entering the sector.
She added: “This is at odds with the well-publicised benefits of increasing diversity in organisations. Specifically, new perspectives, a greater capacity for creativity and innovation and competitive advantage.”
The aims of the programme are as follows:
Andrea Gordon, director of HR at Peabody, said: “The emerging talent programme will help shape London’s future success. It’s an exciting opportunity to help unearth and develop future leaders in our great city and will help us boost diversity and inclusivity in our industries.”
