Housing association given green light to build 600 homes in partnership with TfL #ukhousing

Of the 619 homes to be built by the organisations, working together as part of the Kidbrooke Partnership joint venture, 50% will be affordable as shared ownership or homes for London Affordable Rent.

The approval for the homes in Kidbrooke comes after Jules Pipe, deputy mayor for planning regeneration and skills, made the decision to call in the application and act as the local planning authority after Greenwich Council rejected the plans for being too dense and not providing sufficient transport connections.

The mayor has the power to act as the local authority for planning applications when they affect the implementation of the London Plan or impact more than one borough.

The development in Kidbrooke will also include new amenities such as an improved transport hub, village square, nursery, and retail and business space.

Work on the site is expected to begin in 2020, with hundreds of jobs estimated to be required during the construction phase of the project and more than 120 permanent jobs anticipated on the site once the work has been completed.

In 2016, TfL appointed 13 development companies and consortia to its property partnerships framework to help deliver its long-term development pipeline of 10,000 homes across 300 acres of TfL land.

Notting Hill Genesis was appointed to the framework as part of Triangle London Developments, its consortium with developer U+I.

John Hughes, group development director at Notting Hill Genesis, said: “We are delighted to have been given the go-ahead for this exciting new development.

“Our vision is to create a high-quality, mixed-use development which completes the new local centre at Kidbrooke and contributes positively to the regeneration of the area for the benefit of the whole community.

“Alongside the creation of thoughtfully designed buildings, extensive public realm, business space and new amenities, we look forward to delivering 619 much-needed new homes, half of which will be either London Affordable Rent or shared ownership, to meet London and Greenwich’s significant housing need.”
