Notting Hill Genesis and its joint venture partner have secured planning consent for the second phase of a 911-home scheme in east London.
Housing association Notting Hill Genesis and developer Countryside have been granted planning permission for 379 new homes in phase two of the Fresh Wharf development by Barking and Dagenham Council.
When completed in 2027, the £364m regeneration project will include 911 mixed-tenure homes across 10 acres of brownfield industrial land.
Construction work in phase one of the scheme began in spring 2018 and will provide 532 new homes, with the first tenants expected to move in this summer.
Fresh Wharf will consist of a mix of one to three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom townhouses for sale and rent close to Barking town centre.
The development is part of a wider masterplan for Barking that will include a river walkway, a public park and 7,500 sq ft of commercial space.
John Hughes, group development director at Notting Hill Genesis, said: “Securing planning consent for phase two allows us to provide even more much-needed, high-quality housing through Folio London, our market rent brand.”
Robert Wilkinson, managing director of partnerships (east London) at Countryside, said: “Having worked closely with our partners and the local community, we are extremely proud to see the next phase of this emerging area come to fruition.
“Creating a new destination that brings together the river, public park and essential amenities makes Fresh Wharf an attractive place where people want to live.”
Notting Hill Genesis and Countryside said the development had been “sensitively designed” to reflect the architectural style of the first phase, while responding to the area’s local characteristics.
