She will take over the role in May from Julia Molloy, who is stepping down after 16 years in the top job.

Ms Lyle has served as chief operating officer at the 5,700-home landlord since 2021 and has over 30 years of experience in social housing.

The incoming chief executive has worked at SBHA since 2005 when she started as an area housing co-ordinator. SBHA said that she brings “a wealth of expertise in organisational transformation, culture change and improving tenant and community outcomes”.

Ms Lyle said her appointment is a “real privilege” and that SBHA is an organisation with “a strong social purpose, clear values and a dedicated, talented team”.

She continued: “Julia’s exceptional leadership has guided us through major transformation and growth.

“I am excited to build on this strong foundation – strengthening partnerships, deepening our impact in communities and ensuring we continue to deliver high‑quality services for tenants across the Scottish Borders.”

Ian McDonald, chair of SBHA’s board, said: “After a rigorous, competitive recruitment process, the board of management is delighted to appoint Maria Lyle as our new chief executive.

“Maria brings proven leadership capability and a deep understanding of the organisation and our values, with a genuine commitment to tenants and communities.

“SBHA remains committed to its strategic direction and Maria demonstrates the insight and leadership needed to guide SBHA into its next phase.”
