Homelessness charity Shelter is supporting an appeal by the wife of convicted terrorist Johnny ‘Mad Dog' Adair to be housed by Bolton Council.Gina Adair and her three children have twice been refused accommodation by the council after fleeing Northern Ireland around six months ago. The charity is helping her in her appeal to Manchester County Court, scheduled for 13 and 14 August.Residents near the private rented accommodation in Horwich where she is staying are said to be fearful after an incident in April when a gunman fired shots into the building in the early hours of the morning. The charity believes Ms Adair has a case for being housed by the council. A Shelter spokesperson claimed her application was turned down on the grounds that she was intentionally homeless and was unsuitable. He stressed Shelter was giving advice but not financial help. ‘The reason we're involved is fairly simple,' he said. ‘Gina Adair was homeless and her and her family were over here looking for somewhere decent to live. We are an organisation that works with homeless and badly housed people and we would help anyone who comes to us for help.'A council spokesperson said it would be contesting the appeal but declined to comment further as it did not want to prejudice the hearing.
