Tributes have poured in after the sudden death of Sue Daniels, chief executive of Bexley Community Housing Association #UKhousing

Sue Daniels, who led Bexley Community Housing Association (BECHA), passed away suddenly on 14 April.

Clive Astall, chair of BECHA, said Ms Daniels “was a driving force” behind the 137-home landlord’s first new build development and the relocation of its office to Bexley High Street.

She “established and maintained a great staff team” during her seven years at BECHA, he added.

The G320, which represents small London housing associations, said: “Our condolences go out to Sue’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

“Sue was a wonderful colleague and great friend to many in the sector and will be sadly missed.”

Ms Daniels was a member of the G320’s executive committee.

Before joining BECHA, she held senior roles at Wandle Housing Association, First Wessex (now part of Vivid), the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Threshold Housing (now part of L&Q).

In a post on LinkedIn, Greg Campbell, founding partner of housing consultancy Campbell Tickell, said: “Sue was a lovely person, decent and committed to making a difference for people and communities. She will indeed be greatly missed.”

Linda Wallace, chief executive of CDS Co-operatives, said: “Sue was irrepressible, irreverent and joyous, with a kind heart and a passion for really getting things done.

“She had no time for time wasting and I know that every minute she had with people who loved, admired and respected her will have counted.

“She was one of those rare people who was entirely true to themselves and she made me laugh out loud – which is what I will carry. Love and courage to her family and friends.”

Patrick Harkness, vice-chair of Bron Afon Community Housing, said: “This is really sad. Sue was a great colleague in a variety of scenarios with huge integrity and knowledge. Condolences to all who knew her.”

Ms Daniels was also chair of Glebe Housing Association, which owns 138 homes for older people in West Wickham and Bromley.

In a statement, the association said: “Sue was a stalwart of the social housing sector, respected and highly regarded by her peers.

“She always advocated for the role and importance of the smaller housing providers within the wider social housing sector.

“Aside from her many roles in housing, Sue was a daughter, a mother and a wife.

“Sue will be remembered by us as a tour de force, a wonderful, witty, kind and generous woman. We shall miss her. Rest in peace, Sue.”
