A recurring theme of the webinar we ran on Wednesday as part of our ongoing Riot Report coverage was that many young people are frustrated in their efforts to develop skills and get a job they enjoy.

As webinar panellist Julie Fawcett, director and tenant of Stockwell Park Community Trust in south London, said: ‘We are working with young people who are outside the system.’

Social landlords, such as New Charter, see it as their responsibility to help establish an environment in which young people can thrive, if they want. The issue, though, is often a shortage of jobs and opportunities.

Inside Housing is doing its bit to help this week by launching a competition to find aspiring young journalists, with work experience on offer for the winner. The deadline is 2 December so get writing.
