Garden cities are 'not a solution to the housing problem', says policy professor

Garden cities are environmentally damaging, expensive and slow to build, said Professor Anne Power, social policy professor at the London School of Economics, talking about the government’s plans for a new generation of the developments.

‘We always hope we can solve housing problems with utopia,’ she told a session of the Chartered Institute of Housing conference in Manchester today.

Garden cities cost £60,000 a home and they are environmentally damaging, she added.
