Manchester City Council’s former director of housing has been appointed as an advisor to the Channel 4 programme George Clarke’s Council House Scandal.
Jon Sawyer, who left the council last summer and has also worked for developer Igloo, will work on future episodes of the series. He was part of the original documentary, which was transmitted in July last year.
The company behind the programme, Amazing Productions, has said that the series will focus on Mr Clarke and his team as they build a new and “forward-looking” social housing development.
Mr Sawyer said: “I share George’s passion to see many more council homes delivered across the country. But this is not simply about numbers – we need to be creating well designed, low-carbon homes and communities where council housing sits cheek by jowl with other housing tenures.”
Architect and television presenter Mr Clarke grew up on a council estate. He has previously told Inside Housing about his desire to use the council housing series to spur the government into building more social homes.
He said: “This is the most important campaign of my career. High-quality, genuinely affordable council housing is vital to help overcome the deepening housing crisis. With Jon on board, we have an even greater chance of making the campaign a success.”
