Andrew Lister, who has been a non-executive board member at Gentoo for the last two years, is moving over to join the group’s executive team in the newly created role.

He will lead the 29,000-home landlord’s project management office, business analysis and business intelligence teams, with a focus on “accelerating digital transformation across the organisation”, it said.

A spokesperson said the new role would “further improve the service we deliver our customers and colleagues”.

Gentoo is the latest housing association to up its digital efforts, with Cumbria-based landlord Castle and Coasts among those looking at upgrading their services.

Mr Lister previously spent four and a half years at government contractor Serco as one of its chief information officers. In another role, which lasted just over a year, he was technology services director at FTSE250 construction giant Balfour Beatty.

On his new role at Gentoo, he said: “My time on the board has given me valuable insight into what is needed to deliver success, and I am looking forward to working alongside colleagues across the group to help shape our digital future and deliver meaningful change for both our people and our customers.”

Louise Bassett, the group’s chief executive, said it has “big ambitions for digital transformation” and creating the role is “a strategic investment that will deliver a return for the group”.

She added: “Andrew’s expertise and leadership will help us deliver the change our customers and colleagues need and deserve.”

In its last full year, Gentoo reported a 15% drop in surplus to £10.3m despite a rise in turnover. The group’s bottom line was hit by higher spending and a £6m impairment charge related to three large-panel system blocks set for demolition.

The landlord currently has G1/V2/C1 grades with the regulator.
