Large association Hyde strikes 400-home partnership deal #ukhousing

The 50,000-home housing association will partner with house builder Westerhill Homes, part of Chartway Group, to build the 400 homes on the Old Thanet Way site in Whitstable.

The development will include social rent homes as well as shared ownership and affordable rent, it will be funded by Homes England through its strategic partnership with the housing association.

Inside Housing has asked for the amount of homes that will be built for each tenure.

Hyde was one of the first housing associations to receive grant from Homes England through its strategic partnership programme, securing £95.4m in grant to start 1,623 additional affordable homes by March 2022.

The development will be the latest joint venture between Hyde and Westerhill in Kent, after the pair delivered the 333-home Heron Fields development in Sittingbourne.

The two organisations are also working together to deliver 73 homes at the Evabourne development in Peters Village, Wouldham.

Tom Shaw, operations director for development at Hyde, said: “The scheme we are proposing means we can build a range of homes that meet different housing needs, while enabling people to stay close to their families or afford to stay in the area they grew up in.

“The new development will include high-quality new homes and amenities which will sit beautifully and sensitively in the surroundings.”
