Gavin Cansfield, chief executive of Moat, said: “We are thrilled to welcome such an experienced and values-led chair.

“Helen’s breadth of expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our services and deliver on our promise to our customers.”

Paying tribute to outgoing chair Mr White, he added: “We are incredibly grateful for Steve’s unwavering leadership and commitment over the past nine years. His tireless efforts have laid a strong and enduring foundation for Moat’s future. We thank him sincerely and wish him all the very best in his next chapter.”

Mr White played a key part in building up Moat’s housing offering across Kent, Essex, Sussex and London.

He said of his time as chair: “It has been a true privilege to lead an organisation so committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes and exceptional customer service. I am immensely proud of all we have accomplished together.

“As I hand over to Helen, I do so with full confidence in the strong foundations we’ve laid and the talented people who will carry our vision forward.”

Ms Evans said of her appointment: “I am honoured to take on the role of chair at Moat and to build on the remarkable legacy Steve leaves behind. I look forward to working with the board, Gavin and the wider team to support Moat’s mission and deliver lasting impact for the people and communities it serves.”

Also this week, a large build-to-rent landlord announced its next chair. FTSE 250-listed Grainger has appointed Simon Fraser to its board as non-executive director and chair designate. He will take up his role as non-executive director on 1 October and will join the board’s committees.
