The government will go before the High Court tomorrow in a dispute over whether a form of loft insulation commonly used in new build homes complies with building regulations.
Energy industry regulator Ofgem and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) will face May-Lean & Co – a firm which produces an alternative loft insulation product – in a judicial review.
The company contends that a loft insulation product manufactured on-site and frequently used in new homes is not being properly tested by building regulations and does not comply with the rulebook.
DCLG and Ofgem argue that the on-site product does comply with regulations.
Inside Housing understands the dispute is not centred on fire safety issues, but rather whether the type of loft insulation often manufactured on-site keeps heat from escaping from buildings.
