Housing association moves

Housing association moves
  • Moat Homes made two high-profile appointments to its management team in January, bringing in Sarah Butler (pictured) as its new director of development and sales from her role as director of sales and marketing at Notting Hill Genesis. The 22,000-home association also appointed Anne Brighton, formerly operations director at Suffolk Housing, as its new director of neighbourhoods.
  • Karbon Homes appointed former Barratt and Persimmon executive, Scott Martin, to become its new executive director of resources. Mr Martin joins the Newcastle-based association after a decade at Barratt.
  • Peabody promoted Eamonn Hughes as its interim chief financial officer. Mr Hughes replaced the longstanding finance boss Susan Hickey, who left at the end of last month.
  • Essex-based housing association CHP has brought in three new directors to strengthen its management team. Simon Hague takes up the role of interim director of neighbourhoods after a period as interim head of resident management at One Housing. Yvonne Woodward is promoted to the role of director of finance and assurance, while Rachel Hadley is named director of people and communications, moving from Ford Motor Company where she was a senior partner.
  • Catherine Raynsford, who was a director at property firm JLL for nine years, has been hired by Hyde as its director of stakeholder and investment management. She was previously a senior development officer at L&Q.
  • Manningham Housing Association hired Shendi Keshet as its new director of finance and resources. Ms Keshet joins the BME housing association after a number of interim roles in recent years, including head of financial planning at Beyond Housing.
  • Accord announced three new board members in December, with Christina Patterson, Sean Pearce and Stella Layton joining the association. Mr Patterson is a writer and broadcaster and has written for a number of national publications, such as The Sunday Times. Mr Pearce is the chief operating officer of the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, and Ms Layton has a track record as chief executive and managing director of a number of large commercial businesses.
  • Freebridge Community Housing's chief executive, Tony Hall, is to step down from his role after 14 years in charge at the association. Recruitment for for Mr Hall's replacement has now begun.
Housing association moves 2 – Dec to Jan 2020
  • Troy Francis (pictured), former head of housing and neighbourhoods at Brent Council, joined Optivo to become its new director of operations. Mr Francis officially joined the 44,000-home association on the 27 January.
  • Former housing minister Gavin Barwell joined the board of the UK's largest housing association. Clarion appointed Mr Barwell alongside Tom Smyth, an advisory partner at Rothschild & Co.
  • Grŵp Cynefin also made new additions to its board with four new members: Geraint George, Jane Lewis, Mike Corfield and Tony Jones. Mr Corfield joins the association with more than 30 years of experience in the social housing sector.
  • Warwickshire Rural Housing Association brought in three new board members. Emma Harper, Deanna von Anrep and Ann Lattimore all joined the association in early December.
  • Yorkshire-based ALMO St Leger Homes welcomed its new chair, Dave Wilkinson, to join the board in December. Mr Wilkinson recently retired following a number of years in senior roles at Doncaster Council.
  • Sanctuary Care, the care arm of housing association Sanctuary, appointed Lynsey Beckey as its new director of assets at the start of January. Ms Beckey joined from Connexus, where she was director of assets and repairs.
  • Adil Rashid, former land director at Henley Homes, was hired by London-based association Shepherd Bush Housing Group as its new director of development and sales.
  • Wirral-based association Magenta Living saw a new executive director join the association in December. Ann Monk was unveiled as the organisation’s new executive director of finance, she joined from City of Liverpool College.

  • Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has chosen Tom Copley (pictured, left) to be his deputy mayor for housing. He replaces James Murray, who was elected as an MP in the December election. Mr Copley was previously chair of the London Assembly’s housing committee.
  • Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, is to step down from his role after 12 years in charge of the Scottish arm of the homelessness charity.
  • The chief executive of charity Marie Curie has become chair of youth homelessness charity New Horizon Youth Centre. Matthew Reed, who has led Marie Curie for a number of years, will succeed outgoing chair professor Nick Hardwick.
  • Manchester City Council's former director of housing has been appointed as an advisor to the Channel 4 programme, George Clarke’s Council House Scandal. Jon Sawyer, who left the council last summer, will work on future episodes of the series.
  • Wates Property Services brought in Steve Jackson as its new strategy director to replace Phil Sperring, who retired after 40 years with the business. Mr Jackson, who has been with Wates for 23 years, was promoted from his previous position of director of operations at Wates Living Space.
  • Large national house builder Keepmoat announced in December that it had appointed Steve Stone, the former chief executive of Crest Nicholson, as a non-executive member of its board.
  • Living Space Housing has appointed Paul Breen as its new commercial manager. Mr Breen joins the development-led residential planning, design and construction services firm from RGB Group.
  • Homes for Scotland, the organisation representing housing professional in Scotland, has added Richard Jennings to its board. Mr Jennings is the managing director of Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, which is part of Places for People.
  • Leading UK property investment and development company SevenCapital has hired Damien Siviter to the newly formed position of managing director. Mr Siviter takes on the role of directorship across all SevenCapital group companies, which include the company’s construction arm, Colmore Tang Construction, and the recently formed homes division, SevenHomes.
  • Alison White has joined the not-for-profit (NFP) & social housing team as a senior audit manager at accountants and business advisors Beever and Struthers from Mazars
  • Savills’ financial consultancy arm has brought in Alex Morgan as a director to strengthen its team that provides treasury and debt advisory support to housing associations.
  • Redbridge Council has appointed Nicky Fiedler from Enfield Council to become its corporate director of communities. Ms Fiedler joins with more than 15 years of experience of leading teams to deliver frontline services.
