The mother of a six-year-old boy who impaled his face on spiked railings near his home is suing her housing association.
Clare Metson’s son Alfie Albrighton slipped on railings in Old Ford, near Bow in east London on 11 June.
He was speared in the chin and cheek by the metal railing, which Old Ford Housing Association said was ‘of a standard type’.
Although he was able to pull himself free he suffered serious facial injuries and he may have permanent scarring.
Ms Metson is now taking legal action with a view to claiming compensation from Old Ford Housing Association, part of the Circle Anglia Group.
A spokesperson for Circle Anglia said: ‘Our priority is to provide a safe environment for all our residents to live in, and we were very concerned to hear about this accident.
‘We immediately inspected the railings with our contractors and they are of a standard type and are designed to fence off the bin area.
‘The resident is claiming for compensation and this is being reviewed by our team.’
