The partnership, which is likely to start on 1 April, will see 30,000-home Gentoo Group expand beyond Sunderland for the first time.

The decision to become part of Gentoo was taken by WSHA members at the end of February, but needs to be signed off by the Scottish Housing Regulator before coming into force in April.

WSHA currently has around 3,000 homes in Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Under the agreement they will continue to exist as a landlord for these homes, and keep their own staff and management committee. Gentoo will act as the parent body, setting the overall strategy and policy for the group.

Duncan McNaught, chief executive of WSHA, said: ‘While working on these partnership proposals we have already noticed clear benefits on working with Gentoo and in the sharing of knowledge and expertise between our two organisations.’
