Nick Walkley, the former chief executive of Homes England, will join Avison Young as its principal and president of its UK strategic advisory team from September, the commercial real estate company has confirmed.
Mr Walkley’s move to the private company comes five months after he left the government’s housing delivery agency, where he spent four years as its boss.
He joined the Homes and Communities Agency in 2017, a year before it was split into two organisations – the Regulator of Social Housing and Homes England.
During his time at Homes England the organisation introduced a number of initiatives, such as the huge Strategic Partnership Programme, through which housing associations secured nearly £2bn to bolster their development plans.
Before taking up the role at Homes England, Mr Walkley served as chief executive of the London Borough of Haringey for five years between 2012 and 2017. He also led Barnet Council, London’s second-largest borough, between 2008 and 2012. He has more than 20 years of experience in the public sector.
In a statement released by Avison Young, Mr Walkley said he was “hugely excited” to join the international company. “Having worked in the public sector for a significant part of my career, this is a wonderful opportunity to apply my experience to a broader portfolio of clients and support the business in delivering world-class solutions,” he said.
Jason Sibthorpe, Avison Young’s UK principle and president, said: “I’m delighted that Nick will be joining us at such a pivotal time for the UK economy, as we look to build back better, deliver industry-wide transformational change and help achieve the government’s ambitious net-zero targets. His record of building enduring relationships with clients and delivering leading public-private partnerships speaks for itself.”
