A study commissioned by the Hyde Group and Housing Quality Network also found large landlords are increasingly seeing resident involvement as necessary to justify public expenditure on their programmes.

The study was led by Professor Hal Pawson of Heriot Watt University and looked at resident involvement in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.

Julia Johnson, head of resident engagement at Hyde, said: ‘The report revealed that European landlords were moving away from traditional “citizen” approaches to real involvement, and focusing on resident satisfaction and a range of involvement options, instead of past practices where decisions were made by committee.

‘This change was in response to residents’ wishes to limit their time involvement.’

Inside Housing is looking at the subject of board member remuneration in our Focus section this week.
